Our Mission
To achieve efficient, transparent, and globally acceptable ship registration and administration services, while safeguarding safe navigation, protecting the environment, and fulfilling all relevant national and international maritime obligations.
Our Vision
To be the maritime administration of choice, acclaimed for providing excellent registry services, our commitment to our clients and the industry and our contribution to the development of the Saint Lucia maritime sector.
The Saint Lucia maritime authority and its role
The Saint Lucia maritime authority is the Division of Maritime Affairs, which is supported and administered by the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), a statutory body of the Government of Saint Lucia. The Division was established in 2000 following amendments to the SLASPA Act No. 10 of 1983 and the Shipping Act No. 11 of 1994. The Saint Lucia Ship Registry is the service through which ships are registered under the Saint Lucia flag and seafarer documents are issued.
Its mandate is to see that maritime activity in Saint Lucia, and on ships flying the Saint Lucia flag, meets national and international standards for safety and pollution prevention. This covers the survey, certification and registration of ships, the certification of seafarers, flag state and port state control inspections, and the investigation of shipping casualties.
Saint Lucia is a member State of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The authority applies the main IMO conventions to registered ships and their crews, including SOLAS for safety of life at sea, MARPOL for the prevention of pollution from ships, and STCW for the training and certification of seafarers.
