Saint Lucia Yacht Registration

Register a private or commercial yacht under the Saint Lucia flag

Saint Lucia yacht registration is handled by the Saint Lucia Ship Registry. Private and commercial yachts, motor or sail, can be entered on the national register and fly the Saint Lucia flag.

Yachts that can be registered

The Registry accepts private yachts used for the pleasure of the owner and commercial yachts that are chartered or otherwise operated for reward. Both motor yachts and sailing yachts can be registered. As with any vessel, eligibility depends on ownership and on the yacht meeting the standards that apply to its size and use.

Private and commercial yacht registration

A private yacht is registered for pleasure use and does not trade. A commercial yacht carries charter guests or is otherwise used for business, so it has to meet additional requirements for construction, safety equipment, manning and crew certification.

Tell the Registry at the enquiry stage how the yacht will be used, because this decides which requirements and certificates apply.

What registration provides

  • Nationality and the right to fly the Saint Lucia flag
  • A certificate of registry to present for port and customs formalities abroad
  • A public record of ownership
  • The ability to register a mortgage against the yacht. See ship mortgage registration.

How to register a yacht

  1. Submit a vessel registration enquiry with the details of the yacht and the owner.
  2. A Registry Officer reviews the enquiry and sends the document checklist and the fees that apply.
  3. Return the completed forms with the supporting documents and payment.
  4. The Registry carries out its technical and legal checks.
  5. The certificate of registry is issued.

Owners are typically asked for proof of ownership, such as a bill of sale or builder certificate, a tonnage or measurement certificate, and evidence of deletion from any previous registry. The full process is described on the Saint Lucia vessel registration page.
